This weekend two of the most popular nerd conventions are underway, as well as some really great shows.Check out our weekend event picks!
Friday
1)Anime Boston at Hynes Convention Center: Cosplay, panels, games, contests, and, of course, all the anime you can fit into one weekend.
2)The Magnetic Fields at Berklee Performance Center: They recently released 10th LP, Love at the Bottom of the Sea (Merge), the first Magnetic Fields’ record to feature the instrument since 1999.
3)Nada Surf at Paradise Rock Club: If you like the movie John Tucker Must Die, you probably like Nada Surf. (Guilty as charged.)
4)Pax East at Boston Convention Center: Penny Arcade’s big gaming con — also kicks off today. For the PAX newbs, it’s not all games. They’ll also have nerd-approved hobbies like comics, anime, cosplay, and the like, making the decision of which conference to attend even harder.
5) “The Pill” with Andre Obin [record release show] at the Great Scott: This release party for André Obin’s new single is being held at the Pill, the weekly dance night hosted by the Phoenix’s music editor, Michael Marotta.
Saturday
1) International Pillow Fight Day 2012: Resident flash-mob impresarios the Banditos Misteriosos present Boston’s International Pillow Fight Day 2012. Where? We don’t know.
2)Howler at the Great Scott
Sunday
